Water
Wholesale
Wholesale water businesses face some of the toughest and most fundamental decisions of the entire water value chain. Deciding to ‘make do with the water we have’ drives a strenuous discussion of rights, entitlements and enforcement, whereas ‘manufacturing or recycling water for customers who can afford it’ moves the debate to consideration of pricing, social equity and environmental impacts.
Decisions on regulatory and institutional arrangements may ultimately tip the balance one way or the other. Efficient allocation mechanisms, whether price-based (i.e. markets) or not, for the wholesale supply of water are emerging as effective means of managing supply constraints and driving new investment.
Our recent global evaluation of asset management practices for the International Water Association and Water Services Association of Australia, covering water businesses in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, USA, Canada and the Middle East, places Marchment Hill Consulting at the forefront of knowledge on industry responses to the security of supply, asset planning, regulatory and institutional challenges facing the wholesale water sector.
