MHC hosted successful CEDA Trustee lunch in Melbourne (4 August 2011)
News: Neil Gibbs, Founder and Managing Principal of Marchment Hill Consulting, was privileged to host the CEDA Trustee lunch on 4 August 2011.
The key speaker, Mr Andrew Reeves (Chairman of the Australian Energy Regulator) discussed the implications for the economic regulation of the wholesale gas and electricity markets, for network charges and for the long-term interests of consumers. The meeting was attended by industry leaders, major customers, and government representatives.
A lively debate followed covering the market rules, levels of flexibility for the AER in its interpretation of the rules and in its determinations, appropriate models for setting WACC, the role of CSG to LNG and future gas pricing, media driven concerns about the rising cost of electricity, flat energy demand yet growing peaks, and many other contemporary challenges.
James Reynolds (Economics & Regulation Practice Leader, MHC) summarised the meeting’s proceedings, identifying a broad base of challenges in the years ahead.
