The challenge
In June 2017, ARENA and AEMO launched a tender to secure a demand response market in South Australia and Victoria to secure approximately 100MW of response capacity by summer 2017/2018. ARENA specifically indicated that $22.5m of funding would be made available to institutions, businesses and/or aggregators who could propose more than 5MW of demand response each to feed into AEMO’s RERT process. Their proposals were to focus on increasing renewable integration or innovation and could not include more than 20% fossil fuel-fired generation. |

What MHC did
MHC helped it’s client, one of Australia’s largest utility service providers, to prepare their internal business cases and submissions to the DR Program: to ascertain and triage the demand response capacity available, ensure robust and transparent business cases were in place and ARENA’s formal submission paperwork will be successfully submitted before the July 2017 deadline. The client was one of the 10 successful applicants in securing ARENA funding. |

The benefit
MHC has been able to leverage:
to ensure that the client had the best possible applications to the Demand Response Market. MHC is now supporting this client with the launch and implementation of their demand response trial. |
